It was introduced in 1860 by Doctor Dubois. Since 1987, a great number of works have been carried out: drilling of the “source des chalets”, rearrangement and enlargement of the spa therapy premises, moving of medical surgeries to a new wing of the spa, opening of a spa waters automatic control laboratory, new boiler room and 3 new therapy rooms in 1998, regular extension of the “Thermes” Residence,...
Thus, owing to its environment, to the quality of its care and of its equipments, the spa establishment of Saujon has grown steadily in recent years.
The average age of the water is 15600 to 21200 years old. The water gushes out of the Source des Chalets, located in the Parc des Chalets. This source is recent for it comes from a drilling made in 1987.
It received the approval of the Ministry of Health on the 3rd February 1993. From this deep drilling (-200m) flows cold trace-metallic water (17.9°C) the mineral content of which is mainly made up of calcium bicarbonate, magnesium and sodium chloride.
It is used in external applications and internal use. With its sodium chloride it has a tonic effect whereas the presence of calcium and of magnesium has particularly efficient sedative effects in the treatment of spasmophilia.
In drinking treatments, it has a detoxification effect through stimulation of the bladder. It also contains traces of iron in a reduced state which, in contact with the air, oxidizes in the form of ferric oxide, which gives the water its carmine red colour.
They consist in an improvement of the spa patient’s well-being with the following results :
