Discover Saujon, a living city
Not far from the vast beaches, but nevertheless always calm, Saujon a city of more than 6500 inhabitants, has a particularly mild climate, an exceptional number of hours of sunshine and a very pleasant early autumn.
At the end of the Seudre estuary (the smallest river in Europe), Saujon is a crossroads between the (ocean) coast, the Arvert and Seudre lands to the West and the region of Saintonge to the East.

The Port of Ribérou
Nowadays in Ribérou, there remains the charm of the old port installations, the facades of fine-looking houses, the cafés, the maison du milieu aquatique et de la pêche (House of Marine and Fishing Environment), (the market) and the pleasures of quiet strolls along the banks of la Seudre.
The market
The market is located at the corner of the church square and of rue Carnot. Newly renovated, it has kept its original architecture of the beginning of the twentieth century. It is a very nice place for meetings and events where it is a very friendly, and active meeting place. There you will find all the savours and atmosphere of traditional French food.
The fair
The fair of Saujon, very renowned, takes place on the second Monday of every month. In December it also includes a Christmas market.

Culture and shows
Gaston Balande (1880 - 1971)
Gaston Balande spent his childhood in Saujon where his family lived. His artistic gifts come to light and lead him to study painting in the atelier of Abbé Coutureaud, in Royan, pupil of Harpignies. He leaves an unfinished work including several paintings that reveal his talent and which are exhibited with those of his son at the Town Hall of Saujon. His paintings can be seen by appointment at the Town Hall.
The Emile Gaboriau multimedia library
The multimedia library of Saujon has available to the public a number of books, computers, CDs, video cassettes and CD-ROMs. Possibility of Internet connections.
Special events are regularly organized : exhibits, competitions, readings for small children and afternoon fairy tales during school vacations...
Salicorne Hall
A newly built entertainment centre with several modules, it can welcome various entertainments (theatre, concerts, balls, various events...) all year round.
